Scapegoats

Scapegoats was a 6 part Radio 4 series in 1994 exploring the history of some of the groups in society so beloved of contemporary tabloid headline writers. Written and presented by Hugh Prysor Jones the series investigated the changing perceptions of Single Parents, Travellers, Homosexuals, Immigrants, the Mentally Ill and the Workless.

Camp Coffee

Granny's Larder was a series of short Radio 4 'cartoons' telling the story of some food brands that are still with us though what's in the bottle, box or tin may be quite different. In addition to Camp Coffee the others were Birds Custard, HP Sauce, Ribena and Horlicks. Narrated by the great Derek Cooper.

Johnny Ramensky

This was one of a series of short programmes called Heroes and Villains, made for an early Radio 5 Live Crime and Punishment strand, about the curious translation of a select group of criminals into popular folklore. Narrated by Siobhan Redmond, the others explored the facts and the myths of Charles Peace, Dick Turpin and the Great Train Robbers.

Test Tube Detectives: 'Blood cries out for vengeance'. This was the first part of a six part series on the history of forensic science. Narrated by Donald Findlay QC the series won the Glaxo Wellcome Science Writers radio award in 1998 - and also helped fund my MSc in Forensic Medicine degree.

The Peoples Festival

In 1951 the Cultural Committee of the Communist Party in Scotland organised a People's Festival as a fringe to the Edinburgh International Festival. The programme included theatre from Ewan McColl, Joe Corrie and Ena Lamont; lunctime uplifting lectures; and Hamish Henderson' People's Festival Ceilidhs at the Oddfellows Hall, This programme broadcast on Radio Scotland in 2001 hears from participants and archive recordings about the artistic and financial challenges and political infighting.
